Mod Sleek Home Office {First NYC Apartment}

Style your Home Office

While my new apartment is much more spacious than my last {snoop around in my Interiors section}, I still needed to make my bedroom a multi-functional space by incorporating an area for my home office alongside the rest of my bedroom furniture. Since my bedroom is so elegant and classic {images here}, I of course wanted my office area to be a nice compliment while being functional for daily work.

My inspiration for this organized and minimalist space resulted from an event I attended for Real Simple Magazine & Staples. While the event was debuting the Staples Space-Saver 10-Sheet Cross Cut Shredder,what really caught my eye was the Baxton Studio Wishbone Solid Wood Dining Chair which they had styled in a home office display. Knowing it would coordinate back perfectly to my  Land of Nod Pirouette Desk {which you probably remember my  from my “Organize your Desk” post}, I was ecstatic that it may be the finishing factor in creating this “whole look” I had an itch for.

If you are starting from scratch with your own home office, my advice would be to pick a VERY sleek desk and desk chair duo. What does this mean? It means searching for items with ‘slim legs’, minimal bulk, and come in coordinating colors. While desk drawers are good for storage, ones that look like they have a built-in file cabinet are way too heavy for an elegant bedroom! As for the chair, cushioned classic “desk chairs” {like this} may be incredibly comfortable, but once again they will just be an eye sore in the room. Concerned you just won’t be comfortable in that ‘nouveau’ chair? Place a comfy neutral colored pillow on the seat or soften the backside by draping a plush pashmina! If the pashmina looks messy when draped over the chair, then pick one that coordinates with your bed spread and keep it along on the foot bed when not in use.

As I mention in my “Organize your Desk” post, keeping your desk top clean with minimal papers and clutter is crucial! All I placed on top alongside my Mac Book Pro was a West Elm Industrial Task Table Lamp, a few silver picture frames, and a silver candle. Then to tie the space together as a whole, I hung a piece of art that coordinated back to my black tones in my furniture and the grey tones from my bedroom. Tada! A gorgeous and sleek space to work that doesn’t clutter up a beautiful bedroom!
