HairCare Solution: Sleek and Straight

Fashionable Hostess Hair Care Solutions

Blow-outs have always been an obsession of mine. To be honest they began as a result of my scarring high school hair days, specifically senior year. I was a cheerleader that year {which I still laugh about because I was such a serious athlete on the tennis court that it seemed ironic that I threw that activity into the mix}. I remember that on game days we could wear our cheerleading outfit to school {a much more attractive option to our usual school dress code} so all the other girls on the squad showed up with their stick straight hair flowing down past their shoulders to complement the look. I had spent an hour the night before attempting to blow-dry my frizzy kinky waves (ah, the days before straightening irons), yet each morning I woke up with a big poof. I always attempted to tame the beast with a half up half down style, but by mid-day it always ended up in a pony tail or sometimes even in a bun. Obviously I was being an overly dramatic high-schooler and was being way too hard on myself, but it was ever since then I thought it was best to leave my locks to the professionals.

To this day, I have gotten much better at doing my own hair and get by doing it for most day-to-day meetings and activities, but in all seriousness I am a regular to Dream Dry, a one stop blowdry bar in the Flatiron District. I have been so many times with Reese {see an insta shot here} that they all now know her by name and ask about her on the occasion I come alone. For events, birthdays, and even photo shoots though you better believe I am getting it done. So long story short, when T3 gave me their new T3 SinglePass X Straightening Iron to style my hair straight for any special occasions, I figured it would go unused in my bathroom.

It wasn’t until that fatal phone call came… a close girlfriend invited me to an event with her that night and I didn’t have enough time to squeeze in a blowout, so I decided to give the iron a go. Thankfully and excitedly I am thrilled to report that it worked pretty impressively. In fact, I am actually not used to having my hair so straight since blowouts are usually done with a round brush and leave you with some wave. I had that whole pin straight look that I would have killed for in high school.

To complement my whole at-home styling {obviously again scarred by my frizz history} I made sure to include a few heat- friendly, frizz-defying products. I am a regular user of Kerastase Resistance Ciment Thermique for my morning bang touch-ups; it is a heat-activated creme for weak hair, which I must add smells delightful. To use, I dampen my bangs, add a dime size amount and then blow out with a blow dryer to straighten. In this case since my whole head was damp post-shower, I used a quarter sized amount and applied all over. I then blow-dried my hair with a flat brush to get it dry and relatively straight, and lastly moved on to the iron. I made sure to separate my hair into sections with a clip and began in the very back with the bottom layer and made my way up the head, ending with my bangs. After I was finished I used a dime size amount of L’Oreal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Sleek It Frizz Vanisher Cream to smooth out any split ends and smooth any fly aways, plus adding some shine.

So there you go… I feel like I just had a therapy session letting you in on all of my hair trauma! But the bottom line is that this triple thread left me with locks that were event-worthy {and an added perk of lasting for 2 days afterward!}. Go figure, Dream Dry may be losing some business on me… well, at least that’s what my husband is hoping!

Four Step Beauty Regimen: Susan Ciminelli

Susan Ciminelli SkinCare //

Up until a few months ago I always preferred to mix and match multiple brands of skincare as a part of my daily morning and evening regimens. Some days I would wake up with dry skin so I would use my thick moisturizers before bed {like this one by Bobbi Brown}, while other days I would skip moisturizing due to a small breakout and use an acne clearing gel {like this one by Peter Thomas Roth}. Then when I went for a facial at Susan Ciminelli Spa the aesthetician recommended that my combination skin would be better with a specific regimen and sent me home a slew of products. Now this wasn’t just one cleanser. It was a legit regimen that even came with a printed out instruction sheet {which I hung on my bathroom wall until I memorized it!}.

The four step system included a wash to start, a hydrating serum next, a spritz of seaspray, followed by a moisturizer. There was a specific moisturizer for day versus night and special cleanser to use for makeup removing at night versus cleansing in the am. Slightly overwhelmed and definitely nervous by the idea of leaving my old ways behind, I told myself I would give it two weeks to see how it faired. I was going through some major hormonal changes at the time since I was ending my first trimester of pregnancy {and my skin was majorly suffering!} so I was willing todo anything to fix it.

Now fast forward to today – where I do think my hormones have slightly relaxed because I am cruising in the second trimester {and some say you get the “pregnancy glow”}, but I must say my skin has really changed. I don’t mean I am suddenly a supermodel with no imperfections. But what I have noticed is that I am not experiencing the highs and lows like I used to. Every day I wake up and my skin is well, the same! No waking up for a big event and experiencing a breakout, and no flaky dry skin no matter how cold the weather, just an overall clean slate. Now I am not gonna sit here and say that I am marching out the door sans makeup. Heavens no, but that’s not me! I have worn foundation, bronzer and creme blush to the gym since I was 18 years old, but that’s just my personality. But what I have found though that my skin just feels soft. No need for the heavy primers {although for events I am obsessed with this one by by Hourglass!}.

So if you like me have always jumped around from product to product and are constantly waking up with a different skin texture, it may be time to get on a regimen as well! Especially if you are prepping for an upcoming wedding or event that you need to positively fabulous for! I totally recommend checking out their Spa on the Upper East Side in NYC or looking at the large range of skin care packages on

Drugstore Beauty Faves

L'Oreal HairsprayL'Oreal Age Renewel

While most of my beauty recommendations are encouraged additions to your ‘splurge’ list, I love finding bargain beauty products {and it doesn’t get much better than ones from your local drugstore!} Of late, a few of my on-the-fly buys have turned into new obsessions, so here are my recent bargain beauty picks!

  • Hair spray: L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin $14.99. What I love: this hairspray really holds! I get major static and fly-aways in the winter {must be from putting on and taking off hats and scarves!} but this spray is great for taming!
  • Face Moisturizer: L’Oreal Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil $24.99. What I love: in the wintertime my face, neck and chest can look so dull and dry no matter how much I moisturize. But after just one nightly application of this oil to my moist-post-shower skin, I could feel my skin soaking it up and feeling revived. *Warnings: don’t use if you are acne prone and don’t use in the am.
  • Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara $8.99. What I love: I am not kidding, I am beyond obsessed with this mascara – the wand is curved with very short bristles towards the tip which allow you to get up-close-and-personal with those baby lashes, especially right in the corners! I love it for day and night especially if I want my lashes to pop!
  • Baby Oil/ Stretch Marks: Burts Bees Baby Bee Nourishing Oil $7.99. What I love: as I mentioned in my interview with, I use it daily by rubbing n my belly, boobs, and booty post-shower to avoid pregnancy stretch marks! I recommend starting this regimen before you notice any changes in your budding belly. Knock on wood, but I didn’t get any stretch marks with this routine my first pregnancy so I am hoping for the same in my second.
